Effective cancer management
Cancer affects people of all ages and accounts for about 13% of all human deaths worldwide. Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells because of damaged cellular DNA. These cells invade and destroy adjacent cells and metastasize, spreading to other parts of the body through the blood.
Benign tumors do no invade other cells or metastasize. However, when cells multiply unsteadily, the tumor then becomes malignant, posing danger to normal tissues and deteriorating the body. If not treated early on, the chances of death are high.
Most cancers are treatable
Depending on the overall condition of the patient, the type, location and stage, most cancers are treatable through a combination of procedures. Among the treatments are surgery, where the tumor and nearby tissues are removed; chemotherapy, where a patient is treated with anti-cancer drugs; and stem cell therapy, where stem cells are injected into a patient.
These treatments are available at premier hospitals in the Philippines. These institutions employ advanced technologies in the engineering of stem cells and other biomaterials for the purpose of preserving, restoring or enhancing organ function.
Also, there available programs that bring together clinicians from specialized medical fields and scientists from the basic sciences of biology, biochemistry, physics, computer science and mathematics, in developing and delivering interventions to cancer at the molecular level.
